Pflugerville City Council is due to consider operations funding of up to $4,642,592 for The Monarch recreation center on September 8.
The proposal is listed as Project Pfit and would support maintenance and operating costs for the new multi-generational facility, which is planned to open in spring 2027.
The agenda record says The Monarch is projected to become fully self-funding within five years. The requested money would cover the period in which the center builds toward that target.
The $4,642,592 figure is not presented as the total construction cost of the building. The council item specifically describes support for maintenance and operations.
Economic development board approved the request
The Pflugerville Community Development Corporation board approved Project Pfit at its August 19 meeting. City Council approval is still required before the funding can proceed.
The proposal is being brought forward as an authorized economic development project under Section 505.152 of the Texas Local Government Code. The development corporation’s bylaws allow City Council to record its approval through a resolution, ordinance or minute order.
The agenda identifies the money as an expenditure and places the item under the city’s economic and business strategic-plan work. It does not give a smaller first-year installment or a different funding ceiling.
Council members are therefore being asked to decide whether to authorize the full project framework up to the stated maximum. Approval would permit funding within that ceiling; it would not mean every dollar had already been spent on September 8.
The source also gives spring 2027 as a planned opening period rather than a fixed public opening date. A more precise date, membership arrangements and operating hours would need to come from later city announcements.
Until the vote takes place, both the funding and opening timetable remain proposals described in the council papers.
